Bar seeks 3am licence seven days a week

Although Lava Lounge currently serves until 2am each morning, environmental health and planning officers from Sheffield Council have objected to the application to extend the licence on noise grounds.

Environmental health officer Jonathan Round said: "The premises are located in a commercial area with high levels of residential accommodation in close proximity, and relatively low background noise levels in the early hours of the morning.

"As such, there is potential for activities at the premises to give rise to complaints relating to public nuisance.

"I have concerns that increasing the terminal hour throughout the week will lead to an increase in people migrating to the area after 2am when other venues have closed or are no longer allowed to admit people, which will inevitably increase the noise."

Phil Abbott, head of planning at Sheffield Council, said the proposed extension to opening hours will "lead to an increase in noise and disturbance from customers arriving and departing from the premises."

He added: "In light of this, the local planning authority objects to the application on the grounds of existing and future detriment to public amenity within the vicinity and owing to its conflict with adopted planning documents.

"I would recommend that the licence is restricted to the current hours of operation and no further extension of opening hours are permitted at the present time."

A decision on Lava Lounge's application to extend its licence will be made at a meeting of Sheffield Council's licensing board tomorrow, at 10am at Sheffield Town Hall.
