The Cambridge-born forward, 25, who spent two previous loan spells in Yorkshire with Rotherham United, have signed a deal until the summer of 2023, with a further year’s option.

The former England youth international was recalled by parent club Norwich earlier on Wednesday from a loan spell at MK Dons - and swiftly headed to South Yorkshire to sign on the dotted line with Barnsley.

Morris, who has netted four times in 24 appearances for MK this term, said: “I am delighted to sign for Barnsley Football Club and cannot wait to get started.

“I would describe myself as a bit of everything. I like to think I am strong and quick and good technically and i know I am describing a super player there, so don’t expect too much!”

“But no, I will leave everything out on the pitch every time, that is a given and something I pride myself on.”

Reds CEO Dane Murphy commented: “The club were keen to get this one over the line to bolster our attacking options. Carlton has proven he can excel in the EFL and has the requisite skills set to add to our forward line.

“This is a deal that we’ve been working on for some time with our stated aim to get business done as quickly as possible this month.

“We are looking forward to seeing Carlton contribute and have no doubt that he will be another quality addition.”

Morris’s arrival follows on from the capture of Forest Green defender Liam Kitching.
