Barrister to put case for latest novel alongside Perrin creator

BARRISTER and author Paul Genney, veteran comedy writer David Nobbs and freelance writer and broadcaster Ian Clayton will be signing copies of their latest books at the Hull and East Yorkshire Literary Lunch on Wednesday, September 29.

Mr Genney, who became a criminal barrister after a varied career as a dentist, potato merchant and twice an unsuccessful Parliamentary candidate, will be publishing his second novel, Sentence Adjourned, next month.

Mr Nobbs whose most famous creation is Reginald Perrin, star of three novels and three television series, contributed to The Frost Report, Frost on Sunday and to The Two Ronnies throughout its long run.

He also wrote for Dick Emery and Ken Dodd amongst others and, with his great friend Barry Cryer, did no less than 68 shows with Les Dawson.

West Yorkshire-based Ian Clayton whose book Our Billie describes the freak accident in which his daughter Billie drowned and his family's attempts to come to term with the tragedy, will also be appearing at the event.

Mr Clayton, who made his name as a storyteller and has written numerous books and produced countless TV documentaries about his own and other people's lives, has said he could never in his worst nightmares have imagined writing something so personal, and heart-wrenching

The event begins at 12.30pm for 1pm at the Willerby Manor Hotel, Well Lane, Willerby.
