Baths Hall ready to rock after £14.4m makeover by council

AN HISTORIC entertainment venue in Scunthorpe is enjoying a new lease of life after a £14.4m make-over.

The Baths Hall, a former public swimming pool dating back to 1931, has been re-launched with a promise to offer an “exciting programme” of theatre, music, comedy, dance and community events.

The facility in Doncaster Road features an auditorium catering for seated audiences of more than 1,000, with a capacity of 2,000 for standing events.

It is being managed by SMG Europe on behalf of North Lincolnshire Council, which funded the 17 months of re-development work.

Nick Reed, from SMG, said: “This is a very special time to be involved in the Baths Hall. Today we’re opening a building to be enjoyed over many years to come.

“We’re also aware we’re following in the footsteps of a venue that meant many different things to many different people over the last 70 years, a venue packed with unforgettable experiences.”

The Kinks, The Who, The Hollies and The Animals were among the famous names who appeared at the venue in its heyday.

Comedian and musician Bill Bailey will launch the new era with his show Dandelion Minds on Friday at 8pm.
