Beauty venture first for college

A training centre which is the first of its kind in the North has been launched at Bradford College.

The college's Hair and Beauty department's new facility, called The Academy, is aimed at qualified hair and beauty therapist professionals.

Based in Keighley The Academy uses skills and knowledge from an educational background but the training provision is entirely for professionals in the hair and beauty industry; especially intended for employees who wish to continue with their professional development once they are within a working environment.

It also provides bespoke training for qualified people who have had a career break or who want to refresh their existing skills.

Debbie Forsythe-Conroy, director of quality at Bradford College, said: "This is so exciting and much needed. I know from my links with hairdressing and beauty therapy employers that this facility is long overdue. It is truly based on employer need. What the professionals want or need, the college will broker and provide the experts to deliver.

"It has been so exciting pulling together these fantastic experts from across the country and getting their support has been invaluable. The standard of the work in hairdressing is breathtaking and the range of courses in beauty should meet every need and every budget."

The new training facility benefits from working partnerships with established companies as well as experienced celebrity experts showcasing their talents and sharing their industry knowledge.

Offering a range of courses, the team at The Academy is able to provide bespoke, bite-size and part-time training.

All of the training is validated or endorsed by the professional bodies it is served by such as the Guild of Therapists.

The course provision is designed to strengthen the performance of hair and beauty businesses and the regional economy.
