Beer festival offers record choice

ORGANISERS of this year's Hull Real Ale and Cider Festival say drinkers will have a "record choice" of brews at Hull City Hall next month.

The three-day festival is returning to the Mortimer Suite after two years at Hull College, and will begin on Thursday, September 9.

There will be 85 real ales, supplied in 107 firkins – making a total of 6,500 pints.

The backbone of the festival will be some of the “Champion Beers of Britain 2010” and a selection from local breweries. Favourites and new beers will make up the balance.

A total of 39 handpumps will dispense session-strength beers (up to 4.2 per cent strength); another 46 stronger beers will be served by gravity direct from the cask. Lined glasses will ensure customers receive full measures.

A separate cider bar will offer 27 real ciders and perries, and a bottled beer Bar will offer 20 different Belgian and German bottled beers.

Festival organiser Alan Canvess, of the Hull and East Yorkshire Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale, said: “We are delighted to be returning to what has become our modern-day spiritual home.”

The doors will open at noon on September 9.

Entry to the Friday evening session will be by 3 ticket only, which are available from the Hop & Vine in Albion Street.
