Bees trap officer in patrol car

Deputy Jenkins got more than he bargained for when he responded to a call about a broken down lorry carrying the bees.

Rather than being able to help, the Wake County Sheriff's officer was forced to spend three hours in his patrol car after nearly 50,000 honeybees swarmed all over it.

The lorry was carrying a trailer holding 60 boxes of bees which managed to escape from their container just as he arrived, and proceeded to make a bee line for his Dodge Charger vehicle.

Mr Heatherly, former president of the North Carolina Beekeeper's Association, and another beekeeper Jennifer Keller removed them. "It was mind-boggling how many bees were out there," said Deputy Jenkins.

About six bees got in the patrol car and the officer dispatched a couple when "they got too close to my personal space".
