Their son Paul Chan, who runs the Castle pub in Bradford city centre, is throwing a party for them, four days after their actual anniversary.

Last month Mr Chand celebrated his 108th birthday and his wife her 101st. Friends and family visited from across the world for their double celebration.

The pair married in India in a Sikh ceremony on December 11 1925 and moved to Bradford in 1965.

They have eight children, 27 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Asked about the secret to a long marriage, Mr Chand said it was important to have no secrets and not to argue.

He enjoys one cigarette a day and enjoys a small measure of whiskey or brandy three of four times a week.

Mrs Chand said she felt blessed.

Son Paul said: “We are so proud to have them as parents and proud to live so closely with them.”

The couple live with their youngest son Satpal, his wife and two of their four children.

The Chands are still waiting to hear from Guinness World Records to see if they have the longest marriage in the world.
