Bid to encourage cycling in city

BIKE workshops are being staged with York's major employers as part of a multi-million pound drive to boost cycling in the city.

Representatives from the Cycling City York scheme are linking in with the companies to encourage more workers to cycle to and from work.

A Bike 2 Work project has started – to highlight the economic as well as health benefits of using a bicycle, including the workshops now being held.

The Bike 2 Work team has already visited the Environment Agency's office at Clifton Moor, where they ran a cycle maintenance workshop.

The team also offered advice on how to plan the best routes to and from work and on buying the most suitable bikes, as well as offering practical tips on cycling.

Free cycle route maps, high visibility "slap-wraps" and bike bells were handed out.

Environment Agency employees could also enrol for free two-hour lessons where they can cycle to and from work beside an experienced trainer as well as take part in a raffle for cycle accessory prizes.
