Big Bertie has sights on world size title

Rider Adeline Jones, 17, and her mount Bertie check out a giant hand-crafted rocking horse dubbed Big Bertie which has been created in his image in Yorkshire.

The ambitious artwork, which lays claim to being the world's largest rocking horse, took craftsman Tony Dew six weeks to make. He used retired eventing horse Bertie, who lives in stables next door to his shop, as his model.

The real-life Bertie, who stands 5ft 6in, is dwarfed by the lookalike which is more than double the size at nearly 12ft high and 16ft long.

Mr Dew, 62, who runs The Rocking Horse Shop in Fangfoss, to the east of York, said: "I've been involved with rocking horses for 35 years now, but this is the biggest we've undertaken."
