Big cash boost for winter arts festival

A FLEDGLING festival which is bringing extra visitors to the Yorkshire coast in the lean winter months has received a funding boost of nearly £50,000, it was announced yesterday.

The 2011 three-day Coastival arts event in Scarborough is to receive 40,000 from Arts Council England, sponsorship from Welcome to Yorkshire, and 8,500 from the Ernest Cook Trust, which supports young people.

Coastival has also been named as one of five key festivals across North Yorkshire by Welcome to Yorkshire and North Yorkshire County Council. A new logo has also been produced for next year's event being staged from February 18 to 20.

Coastival organiser Wendy Clews said: "This is fantastic news for Coastival. The funding allows us to press ahead with our plan to make Coastival 2011 even bigger and better than the first event.

"We will repay that generosity by making sure that Coastival 2011 is fantastic."
