THE “Biking Brigadier” arrived in York yesterday on a marathon ride to raise funds for charity and salute his backroom staff who support the families of those fighting overseas.

Brigadier Richard Dennis, 51, who is the Army’s Director of Infantry, is raising money for The Soldiers’ Charity as he travels the country visiting the infantry’s various Regimental Headquarters in every corner of the land. At each HQ, he has met soldiers and families who have been supported by the charity and staff from the HQs who play a vital role in distributing benevolence, taking long term care of the wounded, and helping former squaddies to find civilian jobs.

He said: “Being Director of Infantry is a huge privilege – it brings me into daily contact with infantry soldiers doing extraordinary things in the most challenging circumstances.”

He added: “The Soldiers’ Charity, and the Regimental HQs of the infantry are two organisations that look after these soldiers and their families.

“I wanted to do something to highlight the critical role that they play and to hopefully encourage people to make a small contribution to allow the work of The Soldiers’ Charity to continue for as long as it is required.” To find out more visit http://www.justgiving.com/BikingBrigadier.
