Bishop's trip strengthens Africa ties

TIES between churches in East Yorkshire and in South Africa will be strengthened this week when the Bishop of Hull sets out on a tour of the country.

Bishop of Hull the Right Rev Richard Frith will lead a group of six to meet fellow Christians in South Africa from tomorrow to November 9.

The group will visit three South African churches twinned with the Diocese of York.

The group will visit a children's centre for children who are orphans of the AIDS epidemic, plus a museum in Cape Town to discuss the impact of people like William Wilberforce had on the end of the slave trade.

Bishop Frith said: "But we're not just going to learn from the South African churches – we'll be sharing with them as well by preaching and leading worship in churches throughout the three dioceses, and discussing how parishes in the Diocese of York and South Africa can work more closely together."
