Blooms bring first sign of spring

Snowdrops are often the first sign that spring is just around the corner – so it’s encouraging that these little flowers have started to flower at Beaumont Park, Huddersfield.

The plants are not native to the UK but originate from Europe where their range stretches from the eastern Mediterranean to Turkey and as far as Russia. British soldiers returning from the Crimean war 150 years ago were so taken by them that they brought bulbs home.Picture: Lorne Campbell/Guzelian.
