Body of man found near historic house

INVESTIGATIONS are continuing into the death of a man whose body was discovered in woods near a historic home in Leeds.

Detectives were called to woodland at Temple Newsam, Leeds, at around 4pm on Sunday after a member of the public made the discovery while out walking.

Police sealed off the area in the grounds of the estate, close to Temple Newsam house, a Tudor-Jacobean mansion.

Forensics officers were at the scene yesterday, together with a heavy police presence.

Uniformed police guarded the woodland and paths leading into the area and sections of the wood remained taped off.

A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police yesterday confirmed the body of the man had been removed from the scene to allow a post-mortem examination to take place.

The spokeswoman said no further comment could be made until more was known.

Last night the identity of the victim had not been released but it is believed the body is that of a man in his thirties or forties.
