Body of missing man, 73, found near beauty spot

A BODY found near a beauty spot in the East Riding is that of missing pensioner Robert Storey, police have confirmed.

Mr Storey, 73, was last seen leaving his home in Millfield Garth, Middleton on the Wolds, at about 3pm last Wednesday.

Police said they were “very concerned” for his welfare because he had appeared distressed in a recent conversation with his family and it was not clear if he had taken his medication with him.

His disappearance sparked a large-scale search involving specially trained officers, a mountain search and rescue team, Yorkshire and Lincolnshire Search and Rescue, mounted police, a dog section, and an air support unit.

Residents were also asked to check their sheds, gardens and outbuildings.

Police investigated a number of possible sightings of Mr Storey, including a report of a man matching his description sitting outside The Goodmanham Arms near Market Weighton. His body was found near Kiplingcoates.

A spokeswoman for Humberside Police said his death was not being treated as suspicious.

She thanked those who had taken part in the search, adding: “Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family and friends of Mr Storey.”
