Book of condolence opened in Bradford after retail giant Sir Ken Morrison dies

A book of condolence has been opened at City Hall in Bradford for those who wish to pay tribute to one of the city's most famous sons.

Sir Ken Morrison, founder of the Morrisons supermarket chain and a Freeman of the City, died at home in North Yorkshire this week after a short illness.

Flags on City Hall were lowered to half-mast after his death was announced on Wednesday and will remain there until his funeral.

Yesterday it was revealed that the Lord Mayor of Bradford was writing a personal letter of condolence to Lady Morrison.

The mayor, Coun Geoff Reid, said: “I would like to express my condolence to the family of Sir Ken Morrison.

“He was every inch the Bradfordian and his passion for Bradford and Yorkshire was second to none. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and worked for him.”

Tributes will also be paid when the city council holds its next full meeting.

The book of condolence can be found in the reception area of City Hall during normal opening hours – Monday to Thursday, 8.15am-5.15pm, and Friday, 8.15am-4.45pm.
