Book shows what's cooking at gastropub featured on TV

A NEW cookbook has been released by those behind award-winning Sheffield gastropub The Milestone.

The pub, in Kelham Island, won the best British food section of the recent Ramsay's Best Restaurant television series, presented by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.

Entitled First, Catch Your Pig, the cookbook focuses on the meat-heavy recipes for which The Milestone has become famous and features photographs of the pub's own pigs.

Co-owner Matt Bigland said: "So many customers have asked us about our dishes that it was inevitable that we would one day produce our own cookbook.

"We are really proud of First, Catch Your Pig. The team have worked really hard to put the book together to ensure it captures our philosophy of a contemporary take on the best quality traditional regional ingredients – a fusion of the old and the new, as chef Simon Ayres puts it.

"We hope we can awake new tastes and motivate people to have fun and to experiment."

Costing 16.95 for the hardback edition, First, Catch Your Pig is available now from the Sheffield branch of Waterstones in Orchard Square, or online.

The Milestone beat off competition from a Michelin-starred restaurant, The West House in Kent, to win the British restaurant category of Ramsay's show and earn a place in the semi-final round of Ramsay's Best Restaurant.

At that stage, The Milestone then lost out on a place in the finals to Bradford-based Gujarati restaurant Prashad, which had previously won the best Indian restaurant section of the television contest.
