Book in for a view of Africa

A rising photographic star of Hull's twin town of Freetown has published a new book of photographs showing a positive side of Sierra Leone in West Africa.

Francess Ngaboh Smart was spotted as having a natural gift with a camera at photo workshops run by Hull photo journalist Lee Karen Stow as an overseas spin-off from the city's Wilberforce Celebrations. More than 90 women in Hull and Freetown were involved in the Wilberforce Women project which led to a photographic exhibition at Hull's Ferens Art Gallery. Now Francess Smart is back in Hull this week to promote a 4.50 book of photographs taken by her as she cycled around Sierra Leone.

Ms Stow said about the 28-year-old court support

worker: "Francess...produced amazing images right from the off

and fell in love with taking photographs."

Anyone who wants a copy of the book can contact Ms Stow on 07947 110504 or email [email protected]

It will be launched at Hull's Octagon Centre on Friday between 4pm and 7pm.
