Bosnia’s grim tale of genocide

On August 12, 1995, the UN announced an investigation into reports that up to 2,700 Muslim men had been shot dead, after aerial photographs appeared to show evidence of mass graves close to Srebrenica.

It later emerged that around 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys died at the hands of Bosnian Serb forces during the break-up of Yugoslavia.

Radovan Karadzic, Bosnian Serb President at the time, of war crimes and orchestrating acts of genocide during the Bosnian war, including the 1995 Srebrenica massacre. He is on trial for war crimes at the UN tribunal in The Hague.

So, too, is General Ratko Mladic, who was in charge of the Bosnian Serb troops at the time.
