Boxers prepare for the ring

A row of boxers wait for their class to begin as the biggest dog show in the North gets underway at Harewood House, near Leeds, yesterday.

Thousands are expected to visit the three-day Leeds Championship Dog Show, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.

It is thought about 9,200 dogs will compete across the three days, with 10,200 different entries in total across the whole show, regarded by many as the Crufts of the North.

Since the first event in Roundhay Park 60 years ago, the show has grown in size, first moving to Temple Newsam and then Harewood.

The show runs until tomorrow, from 7am to 5pm, with judging starting from about 9.30am.
