Boy, 10, attacked and robbed by gang with sticks

A ten-year-old boy was attacked by a gang of teenagers with sticks before they stole his phone.

The youngster was walking home along a ginnel behind Westerley Way in Shelley, Huddersfield, when seven or eight male teenagers blocked his path, threatened him and chased him through Shelley Park before grabbing him and hitting him with sticks. They fled after stealing his mobile phone.

The boy was left with minor injuries after the attack at 5.15pm on Monday.

DC Mark Willetts, of Huddersfield CID, said: “This was a nasty attack against a child that happened at a busy time of the day. I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious or unusual to get in touch. It is likely that at 5.15pm someone was in the park at the time. Did you see a young boy being chased or a large group of male teenagers in the area? If so, please get in touch.”

The teenagers are all described as white and aged around 16 years old. They were wearing dark neck scarves which most of them used to cover the lower half of their faces.

They also wore ripped jeans.
