Boy, 17, struck with a wooden bat during Huddersfield street robbery

A 17-year-old boy was surrounded by a group of males and struck with a wooden bat during a street robbery in Huddersfield town centre.

The victim was walking home with his brother when they were approached by the group of six to eight males in Alder Street on Friday July 15 at around 9.10pm.

One of the suspects demanded money before the group surrounded the victim and one of them struck him with a bat. The group then stole the victim’s phone and chased him and his brother.

It is believed the group were later seen in the Woodhouse Hill area of Huddersfield.

The suspects were aged 13 to 16 and dark skinned apart from one, who was a white male with ginger hair and freckles.

One member of the group was wearing a hooded top, with the hood up and a bandana across his face.

Detective Constable Oliver Coates, of West Yorkshire Police, said: “This was a traumatic ordeal for the victim and his brother, thankfully neither of them sustained any injuries.
