Boy, 3, knocked down and killed in Halifax

A THREE-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car on a street in Halifax.

Mohammed Bilal was hit by a Vauxhall Astra outside his home in Violet Street on Tuesday afternoon after he ran into the road to get to his aunt’s house.

The toddler who escaped from his home when his mum left the door open as she brought washing in from the front garden, was rushed to hospital by neighbours but died shortly afterwards.

Merine Ali, 21, who took him to Calderdale Royal Hospital, said the tot had suddenly come out of the house and ran out into the road too quickly for his worried mum to stop him.

His terrified mum shouted for him to come back, but couldn’t catch him before he was hit by a car, which police say was travelling within the 20mph speed limit.

Ms Ali said: “The car drove over him but when the driver got out he saw that the boy was stuck underneath, so he had to get back in his car and reverse.

“I knew it was serious, but I didn’t expect him to die.

“The nurses told us he had broken three bones in his leg and his skull was damaged but half an hour after we got home, we got the call to say he had passed away.”

Merine’s mother, Rabina Ali, 43, said: “It’s very sad. He was a really good kiddie. He didn’t play out on the street and if he went to play on the swings, his mum would take him. It was a one off. It was his first week at nursery this week and he was already a brilliant student. When I went round there, I saw a beautiful picture he had drawn.
