Boy, 5, 'seriously ill' after crash with bus in Sheffield

A five-year-old boy is seriously injured in hospital after he was hit by a bus in Sheffield.

The boy, who is believed to have been riding a bicycle at the time, suffered serious head and abdominal injuries in the collision with the single decker bus on Shortbrook Road, at the junction with Cowley Gardens, in Westfield, at 6.25pm on Saturday.

South Yorkshire Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time, including those travelling on the number 41 bus, to come forward.

A force spokesman said it was believed the boy was riding a bike from the direction of Cowley Gardens when he collided with the front nearside of the bus, which was travelling towards the centre of Westfield.

The local boy was taken to Sheffield Children's Hospital.
