Boy, 5, seriously injured after being hit by car

He is believed to have been crossing Park Street, in Wombwell, to get from one parent to another when he was in collision with the blue Ford Kuga at around 3.30pm on Wednesday.

He was taken to Barnsley District General Hospital with a serious head injury.

South Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision, which happened near the junction with Park Hollow, outside the old MJ Burke premises, to come forward.

Anyone who saw the child or the manner of the Ford's driving prior to the collision is asked to contact the South Yorkshire Police witness help line on 0114 2202970.
