Boy, 8, stabbed outside Bradford primary school

A BOY of 12 has been arrested after an eight year-old pupil was stabbed in the leg outside a Bradford primary school.

The victim is believed to have been attacked with a penknife at Hill Top Primary School in the Low Moor district, shortly before the school opened for the day. He was treated at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

The 12-year-old is not a pupil at the school.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Police received a call at 9am on May 26 reporting an eight-year-old boy had been assaulted on his way to school in Common Road. He was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary with cuts and bruises to his legs. It is believed that a small penknife was used.

"A 12-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of assault and has been released on police bail pending further inquiries."

A Bradford Council spokesman said: "This incident is the subject of a police investigation. However, we are supporting the families involved."

No one at the school was available to comment.

Earlier this week it was revealed that more than 500 attacks were carried out by pupils on teaching assistants and support staff in Bradford primary schools and special schools in the past 18 months.

The statistics, obtained by the GMB union, have led to councils being urged to publish figures showing the number of assaults against school support workers across the country.
