Boy addicted to sex used girlslike 'trophies'

A TEENAGER from Yorkshire who used six young girls like sexual trophies has been locked up by a judge who branded him callous and indifferent to their feelings.

The 16-year-old, from the Dalton area of Huddersfield, had unprotected sex with four girls, tried to have sex with another and sexually touched a sixth during a spate of offending last year.

He was given three years detention by a crown court judge yesterday.

The teenager, who was 15 at the time, made threats to some of the girls if they told anyone and told one youngster that he would stab her.

Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday that the teenager sent one girl a message via Facebook in which he threatened to “brick her windows”.

The girls, aged between 13 and 15, cannot be identified for legal reasons.

After legal arguments yesterday Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC rejected an application by the media to be allowed to publish the defendant’s name.

The teenager originally faced charges of rape after the incidents came to light, but at a hearing in July the prosecution accepted his guilty pleas to six charges of sexual activity with a child.

His barrister John Elvidge QC said the boy’s pleas were on the basis that the activity had been consensual and it was not a case, for example, of a 40-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl.

“The reasons these (rape) charges have been withdrawn is because the complainants in this case consented to the sexual acts.

“That is the basis on which he will be dealt,” said Mr Elvidge.

“There is no easy way of getting that very important fact across, unpalatable as it may be.”

Judge Durham Hall accepted that he had to deal with the boy on the basis that it had been consensual activity, but he noted that the teenager had been taking advantage of the girls due to his sexual addiction.

“The harsh reality is whatever was going through your mind and the minds of these young women at the time the effect, as witnessed by parents none of whom can be said to be at any fault, has been horrendous,” the judge told the teenager.

Prosecutor Matthew Bean read extracts from various victim impact statements in which some of the girls said they were now seeking counselling and others talked of sleepless nights, problems at school, and a fear of meeting the boy again.

Some of the girls also underwent tests for possible sexual diseases and pregnancy.

Sentencing the youngster to three years detention, the judge said the court was “stuck” with having to deal with him on the basis of consensual acts.

The first complainant was a 13-year-old girl and the judge said after having sex with her the boy had discarded her and moved swiftly on to another youngster, also aged 13, who he sexually touched at a party.

During his remarks. the judge referred to one of the complainants as being the teenager’s “next trophy”, commenting that the boy was callous and indifferent to the feelings of the girls involved.

“Your motivation was your needs and no doubt your ability to tell your friends,” the judge told him.

“You have indicated to the probation officer that you were addicted to sex and when it was available you took it.”

The boy will have to register as a sex offender indefinitely following his release from custody and the judge also imposed a sexual offences prevention order to prevent him having any contact with the six complainants in the case.
