Boy aged 12 given Asbo for bringing misery to residents

A BOY of 12 has been given a two-year anti-social behaviour order for causing misery to residents on a Hull estate.

Keeran Edge, of Gildane, Orchard Park, who often took to the streets armed with a hammer or a stick, caused significant nuisance and harassment over a two-year period.

His crimes and misdemeanours include:

Being abusive to staff at Thorpepark Primary School

Enticing pupils at the school to play truant

Causing damage to property and writing graffiti

Climbing on buildings to throw stones.

After concluding his daytime activities, Edge also caused a nuisance at St Stephens shopping centre in the city centre.

The order was granted by Hull Magistrates' Court after Edge had failed to improve his behaviour despite the intervention of several support agencies.

He faces arrest and possible court action if he breaches the order.

The order prevents him from causing alarm or distress to anyone in the city, bars him from the school and shopping centre, and bars him from carrying hammers, sticks, paint and marker pens in a public place in Hull. Edge's family has also agreed to work with parenting practitioners.

Janella Brown, anti-social behaviour enforcement officer at Hull Council, said: "The council's anti-social behaviour team worked very hard in this investigation and are grateful to the members of the public who were prepared to give valuable evidence that helped secure the order.

"Because of his inappropriate behaviour he affected the quality of lives of residents on Orchard Park, despite having support to address his behaviour.

"Keeran's actions were disruptive and had a significant impact on the local community over the last couple of years.

"We are very hopeful that he will now follow all the terms of his anti-social behaviour order, and that by doing so, his behaviour will show a marked improvement which will help to improve the quality of life for people in the area.

"I would like to thank all the members of the public who came forward with information to anti-social behaviour officers and to Humberside Police."

Anyone who sees Edge breaching the order can call police on 0845 6060 222.
