Boy has 100 stitches after attack by dog

DOCTORS had to put 100 stitches in the cheek of a three-year-old boy who also suffered a fractured eye socket when he was bitten by a Japanese Akita dog.

Gemma Jackson said she was in a pub near her home when her son Trafford-James wandered off into another room and was attacked by the dog.

Trafford-James was initially taken to Chesterfield Royal Hospital, but his injuries were so serious that he had to be immediately transferred to a specialist unit at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

Miss Jackson, 28, is demanding the dog be destroyed after the attack at the Nag’s Head in Newbold, Chesterfield.

She said: ”I think it should be destroyed straight away. It is dangerous, it has bitten one child and it could easily happen again and next time it could be even worse.”

A Derbyshire Police spokesman said inquiries were ongoing, while the pub and its management company Marstons said they did not wish to comment.
