'Boy racers' killed driver in crash

TWO "boy racers" accused of killing a pensioner while speeding along a dual carriageway at 100mph have admitted causing his death.

Colin James, 66, of Caeglas, near Carmarthen in south Wales, died as the result of the horrific high speed smash.

His Renault Clio was shunted by one speeding car into the path of another in the lethal collision.

Rhydian Griffiths, 20, of Nant-y-Caws in Carmarthen, and Richard Williams, 22, of Ammanford, went on trial last week accused of causing death by dangerous driving.

Both denied the charges but yesterday each admitted alternative charges of causing death by careless driving. The pleas to the lesser charges were accepted by the prosecution.

Judge John Diehl adjourned the case at Swansea Crown Court for pre-sentence reports until after November 1.

Both men were released on conditional bail.

Mr James, a father-of-two, died within minutes of the smash on April 10 2009.

Griffiths was described by one witness during the trial as having been aggressive after the accident.

He ran from his car towards the scene swearing and shouting that the pensioner had pulled out in front of him.
