Boys held over broken school windows

Two teenage boys have been arrested after more than 60 windows were damaged at Hyrstmount School in Batley.

The damage, estimated at £7,000, was reported to police on Monday after staff at the school found that 64 windows has been cracked and broken.

It was caused some time between the school closing on Friday June 17 and Monday morning.

Two local boys, both aged 14, were arrested on Monday and are currently on bail pending further inquiries.

Local police officers are now appealing for witnesses to contact them.

Pc Darren Hill of the Batley policing team said: “I want to appeal for witnesses to contact us and for residents to support our inquiries so that we can find the people responsible for this damage.

“Such incidents use up valuable school resources, which could be better spent furthering the education of children.”
