Boys run to ground for charity con

THREE boys who conned residents into sponsoring a charity run they did not do are having to don running shoes for real.

The youngsters will be seen off by some of their victims when they set off for a 10-mile run this Saturday, with a police officer following close behind.

The teenagers used a sponsorship form from a local library to collect money from homes in North Ferriby for Breast Cancer UK in August, but did not take part .

When officers became aware of the scam they interviewed a 17-year-old boy, who was given a final warning on condition that he did exert the energy to raise 100 for the cancer charity.

This Saturday's run from Kirk Ella Box Police Station to Barton-upon-Humber and back over the Humber Bridge will be supervised by keen runner Detective Constable John Thompson on his day off.

Pc Andy White said: "On this occasion, as the parents have been so disappointed by their children's behaviour and are all very pro police, we decided to use this final warning as an opportunity to give the three lads a chance to earn back the money they obtained. We have invited some of the victims who paid the boys the money to be present at the start."
