Brave little Chloe preparing for new bout of face surgery

Chloe Rose Monte’s face was left damaged by a rare condition.

This year the youngster, whose face began to ulcerate when she was a baby, faces a second bout of reconstructive surgery.

But Chloe, two, recovered so well from her first major surgery last year that her next operation has been brought forward.

Mother Sarah, from Rawdon, Leeds, said: “She’s so brave and resilient.”

Chloe and her twin sister Amelia Grace, arrived early but healthy, but a shadow began to develop on Chloe’s face, which was diagnosed as hemangioma, a swelling of the blood vessels.

In rare cases they can ulcerate, affecting Chloe’s facial tissue so her nose and part of her face collapsed, making it difficult to feed her.

She was fitted with a feeding tube and after being treated at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital and Leeds Children’s Hospital the condition is under control. She no longer needs a feeding tube but faces years of operations.
