The Brazilians are coming

Brazilian dancing girls helped sporting and council chiefs celebrate yesterday after it was announced that athletes from the South American country would train in Sheffield ahead of the London Olympics.

Almost four years after negotiations were first opened Sheffield Council leader Paul Scriven, left, and Jose Roberto Perillier, the Brazilian Olympic Committee's high performance general manager, signed a memorandum of understanding at the city's Winter Garden, committing the Brazilians to using Sheffield as a base.

The first training camp to come to Sheffield will be the Brazilian judo squad.

Coun Scriven said: "The signing of this agreement is testament to the outstanding facilities and sporting proficiency we have in Sheffield."
