Bread date for Baroness

Morrisons group HR director Norman Pickavance introduces Conservative Party Chairman Baroness Warsi to baker Dale Bowditch at the new store in Harehills, Leeds.

The Dewsbury-born Tory peer was back in Yorkshire yesterday to meet former benefit claimants who are now supermarket workers.

The Minister without Portfolio visited the store in Harehills where she met staff who have been recruited from the local area as employees or apprentices.

Around half the new recruits have come off benefits to work for the store.

Baroness Warsi said: “The Spending Review is about creating the conditions for a private sector-led recovery. This is exactly what Morrisons is doing.”

Mr Pickavance said; “We believe that everyone has potential and even in these challenging economic conditions, Morrisons is committed to hiring and training new people to keep retail as the engine room of the economy and support our continuing growth.”
