The silver Hyundai Coupe was being followed by officers from South Yorkshire Police when it crashed into a house in Pontefract Road, Barnsley, at 11.45pm last night.

Nobody in the house was injured, but the crashed caused extensive damage to the property.

A 29-year-old man driving the Hyundai suffered minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of offences including dangerous driving, failing to stop and being unfit through drink or drugs.

He is being quizzed this morning.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "At around 11.45pm last night, officers engaged in a short pursuit with a vehicle that failed to stop in Barnsley.

"Emergency services were called shortly afterwards to reports of a collision in Pontefract Road.

"It is reported that a silver Hyundai Coupe was involved in a collision with a property, causing extensive damage.

"Nobody inside the property was injured.

"A 29-year-old man driving the Hyundai suffered minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, being unfit through drink or drugs and other offences.

"He remains in custody being questioned by officers today."
