Breaking: M62 closures in both directions following multiple vehicle smash-up
Drivers are being advised to take alternative routes following the accidents which involved a total of 16 vehicles on the westbound and eastbound carriageways.
Police were called at 5.40pm following reports of 13 vehicles, including a motorbike, in a pile-op on the eastbound carriageway at junction 33.

Hide AdIt led to the full closure of the carriageway at the junction while emergency services responded.
A woman from one of the cars suffered a leg injury and a motorcycle rider suffered an injury to his body during the incident. Both were taken to hospital.
Around the same time emergency services were called to a separate incident on the westbound carriageway near junction 33 in which a LandRover, Audi and Vauxhall were in collision.
No one was reported to be injured in the second accident.
The eastbound carriageway remains closed while the westbound is partially closed.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "Police continue with the Highways Agency to clear the both carriageways and thank drivers for their patience."
