Brewery marks launch of gallery

The Hepworth Wakefield has teamed up with West Yorkshire’s Ossett Brewery to create a bespoke beer to celebrate the launch of the new art gallery which opens later this month.

Mike Heaton, drummer with band Embrace, sampled Masterpiece, The Hepworth Wakefield, a bespoke beer produced by the Ossett Brewing Company at his pub, The Hop, in Wakefield.

Mr Heaton, said: “I’m really looking forward to the opening of The Hepworth. It’s great to see an art gallery getting creative and working with local companies to produce fresh ideas like Masterpiece.”

Paul Spencer, head brewer was presented with the challenge of producing a one-off beer to reflect the gallery directors’ favourite ales. He said: “Using the finest quality English grown barley and wheat malts, we’ve created a special golden, citrus-infused ale with a slight sweetness.”

Masterpiece is now available as a guest beer at over 60 outlets in and around Yorkshire.

The Hepworth Wakefield will be the largest purpose built gallery outside London when it opens on May 21. It will feature work by Wakefield-born Dame Barbara Hepworth and other artists.
