Brick-hurling yobs put lives at risk

YOBS hurled bricks at lorries driving along one of the busiest roads in Worksop on the night of Monday, February 27.

The missiles were thrown at three articulated vehicles from steps leading to a bridge over the A57, near to the B&Q depot.

Damage was caused to each of the vehicles and, on one occasion, a large brick narrowly missed a windscreen. Worksop inspector Steve Cartwright said: “The actions of these mindless criminals could easily have resulted in tragedy.

“The bricks could have hit a windscreen, which would have effectively blinded the driver on one of the busiest roads in the area.

“This could have caused a massive collision and put people’s lives seriously at risk.

“Whoever did this must have been aware of the damage and destruction they could have caused and it is only through sheer luck that we are not investigating a death today.”

A driver reported youths throwing bricks at his lorry at around 10.40pm.

When police arrived at the scene, it transpired that two other lorries had been similarly targeted earlier that evening.
