Brigade’s new chief fire officer

A NEW chief fire officer has been appointed to oversee one of the region’s brigades from the spring.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service’s Chief Fire Officer Richard Hannigan will retire at the end of March next year, and admitted his successor will face a challenging tenure amid the budget cuts to brigades nationally.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Dene Sanders has been promoted to the role and will take over from April 1 next year. The service’s Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Chris Blacksell, has also successfully been appointed to take the position as Deputy Chief Fire Officer from April.

The fire authority ratified the recommendation of the brigade’s Appointments Committee, following an interview and assessment process.

Mr Hannigan said: “Both officers have proven to be highly effective in their current roles and I am confident that they will provide the continuity of leadership to take the Service forward in these challenging times.”
