Bringing home the Bacon
The Hepworth Wakefield yesterday welcomed a visitor ahead of a new exhibition.
Francis Bacon, Study for a Portrait, 1952 is on loan from Tate, as part of a major new collections display – Post-War British Sculpture and Painting – which opens this weekend.
Exploring representations of the body, the displays feature works from the Wakefield Permanent Art Collection as well as key loans from Tate, the Arts Council and private lenders.such as paintings by Francis Bacon, Graham Sutherland, and sculptures by Henry Moore and Eduardo Paolozzi, Reg Butler, and other sculptors. These young artists emerged during a period of unprecedented social and political change in post-war Britain and their art was a direct response to the experience of war.
