British hotel worker found dead

Police in Dubai launched an investigation after a British hotel worker was found dead in her apartment.

Maria McClymont, who was a training manager for a hotel group in the Emirate, was found dead in her Bur Dubai flat last Thursday.

The family of the 50-year-old Scot said they believed she was stabbed and robbed of her jewellery by a man she had befriended since moving there in December.

A statement from Ms McClymont's employer, Starwood Hotels and Resorts, said: "We have been co-operating with the local authorities but as this is an open investigation we are unable to comment further at this time.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the concerned family and friends at this difficult time."

Ms McClymont's sister, Sheena Aitken, said she contacted her sister's employer last week because Ms McClymont failed to respond to text messages and calls.

It is understood her body was found by staff who went to the flat in the Golden Sands 2 development.

Ms Aitken, from Dalkeith, Midlothian, said she believed the attacker was a local man whom her sister had been helping to find work.

She told the Daily Record newspaper: "My sister was the kindest person you'd ever meet. She'd been trying to help this man find a job by giving his CV to people she knew. But all the time he was thinking

about her money and her jewellery."

The mother of three was reported to have moved to Dubai after living in Saudia Arabia for around 20 years.

The Daily Record said she went to live in the Middle East after meeting her Saudi Arabian husband in Edinburgh.
