British shows win Emmy nominations

BRITISH TV productions have garnered nine International Emmy nominations, including one for a programme on Yorkshire artist David Hockney.

Imagine... David Hockney: A Bigger Picture is among the nominations for arts programming in awards honouring excellence in television outside the United States which will be announced on November 22 in New York.

There are also acting nods for Bob Hoskins, who is up for best actor for his role in The Street as a reformed alcoholic who runs a pub, and Helena Bonham Carter, who is among the best actress nominees for her portrayal of children’s author Enid Blyton in the biopic Enid.

The Street is also nominated for best drama. Comedy Peep Show is nominated alongside other British programmes including Shaun the Sheep (children & young people), 9/11: Phone Calls from the Towers (documentary), and Heston’s Feasts (non-scripted entertainment).

TV executive Simon Cowell will receive the International Emmy Founders Award recognising his work in the television.
