Broadband plans under scrutiny

Have your say

PEERS are to review whether the Government should be more ambitious in plans to roll out superfast broadband.

Ministers want Britain to have the best high-speed broadband network in Europe and have pledged money to extend it to 90 per cent of homes by 2015.

But members of the House of Lords communications committee are to investigate whether current plans are fit for purpose and whether there is a danger some remote areas will be left to become “digital backwaters”.

Committee chairman Lord Inglewood said: “We want to look into the Government’s proposals to find out if its targets are likely to be met and whether it is being ambitious enough in its plans.”
