She has amassed more than 100 traditional Christmas scenes, from about 40 countries.

They include examples from as far afield as Peru, Greece, Austria, the north east of the United States and Russia.

The family collection is loaned out each year to try to raise hundreds of pounds for charities.

Dewsbury Minster has chosen The Children's Society to receive donations.

Canon Kevin Partington of Dewsbury Minster said: "Every year we support the work of The Children's Society and we are pleased to be able to use this opportunity to support the charity further."

Dewsbury-based card company, UK Greetings, has produced a special card featuring a nativity scene to be sold at the exhibition.

The exhibition was opened by Libby Purves who was joined by guests from local businesses and the chief executive of The Children's Society, Bob Reitemeier.

It will be on display until February 2.
