Broken-window police deal with boy

A 12-year-old boy has been dealt with by police following reports of windows being smashed by stones in the Gildersome area of Leeds.

Officers were called to Scott Green Crescent and Scott Green Drive last week following reports of windows being smashed by stones.

Inquiries by police officers and police community support officers from the Morley Neighbourhood Policing Team led to two 14-year-old boys and a 12-year-old boy being traced and interviewed under caution at Morley Police Station alongside their parents.

The boys admitted being involved in the incident, with the 12-year-old owning up to being the one who threw the stones.

The 12-year-old was then later visited at his home and, with the agreement of his parents, was dealt with through a community resolution rather than a criminal prosecution because he had not previously come to the attention of local officers.

As part of the community resolution it was agreed that the boy and his family would pay to repair the damage caused, and he will also write a letter of apology to residents affected on the estate in Leeds.
