Brothers are jailed over family plot

TWO brothers who were part of a family plot to lure their "runaway" sister to a bogus meeting in Bradford and take her home to Blackburn have been jailed.

Sajid Hanif, 35, of Kingsway, Lower Darwen, was yesterday jailed for 21 months while his brother Wajid, of Worsten Place, Blackburn, was sentenced to 12 months in prison. Other family members were also sentenced.

Bradford Crown Court heard how Tanzeela Hanif's family were concerned about her welfare after she left home against their wishes at the age of 19.

The family reported her as missing but by July last year had obtained her mobile phone number and realised she was living across the Pennines.

Prosecutor Jonathan Sharp said a plan was devised to lure her to a meeting in Bradford with someone purporting to be a police officer.

Although the case originally involved a charge of kidnap the prosecution accepted guilty pleas to offences of affray and threatening behaviour.

Gilligan, of Coniston Road, Blackburn, had his six-month prison sentence suspended for two years and he was given a 12-month supervision order and ordered to do 100 hours unpaid work for the community.

Sajid's wife Sheena had a four-month prison sentence suspended for two years and was placed on supervision for a year.

Asim Hanif, of Worston Place, was ordered to do 80 hours of unpaid work for the community while Lubna Hanif, of Worston Place, will have to do 120 hours of unpaid work and now faces being struck off by the Law Society.

In the ruse, Miss Hanif was bundled into a vehicle and driven to Blackburn where she was subjected to a terrifying ordeal in an empty house and even forced to take a pregnancy test.
