Brothers win forestry award

A BAND of brothers have won a prestigious award for their role in the creation Yorkshire’s answer to Sherwood Forest.

Selby farmers David, John and Kevin Sherwood, were awarded the John Boddy Rose Bowl after transforming farmland at Thorpe Willoughby into 112-acre woodland and opening it to the public.

A total of 40,000 trees, which include oak, cherry ash and rowan, have take root over the past seven years - acting as a major boost to wildlife in the area.

The prize was awarded by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society and judged by the Forestry Commission and The Royal Forestry Society.

The Forestry Commission previously invested £96,000 in the scheme, including grants to provide community access.
