Brown given dressing down as pop group's frontman praised

PRIME Minister Gordon Brown has been named the worst-dressed man of the year – while Yorkshire musician Alex Turner was named among the most impressively attired.

The Arctic Monkeys singer has come third in GQ magazine's best-dressed ratings, behind 23-year old Twilight actor Robert Pattinson, at number one, and pop group Take That at number two.

Other notable Sheffielders to make the best-dressed list are The Wire actor Dominic West at number 26 and former Pulp musician Jarvis Cocker, who came in at 27.

Mr Brown, meanwhile, has moved up the rankings from third worst-dressed last year to being the worst-dressed man in the 2010 poll, for being "anything but a prime example of British style".

He is joined by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who came in third place, and North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il who was ranked eighth.

The worst-dressed list also includes funnyman Russell Brand in second, London Mayor Boris Johnson in fourth place and the whole of the Top Gear team (fifth).

It is completed by Britain's Got Talent judge Piers Morgan (sixth), the Match of the Day team (seventh), Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell (ninth) and strip club boss Peter Stringfellow (10th).

Chat show host Jonathan Ross, who was officially the worst-dressed man of 2009, escaped a mention this year.

Mr Brown's political foe David Cameron, meanwhile, secured a place as one of the top 10 best-dressed, in eighth place.

The situation was very different to just three years ago, when Mr Brown made it into New Woman magazine's list of the world's 100 sexiest men.

Although then only Chancellor, he managed a rating of 97, while Arctic Monkeys star Turner was not rated at all.

Last year's victor DJ Mark Ronson has plummeted from first place to number 30, Prince Charles has fallen from fifth place to 36, Ronnie Corbett is number 46 and Cheryl Cole's football star husband Ashley Cole is a new entry at 44.
